It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Fred in Ottawa on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in his 84th year. A Nova Scotian by birth and spirit, Fred obtained his PhD in physics at McGill University and spent over 40 years teaching, first at McGill and then moving his family to Ottawa in 1966 where he enjoyed a 29-year tenure at Carleton University. Fred pioneered the use of computers in the forensic analysis of Blood Stain Patterns, which kept him busy during his retirement.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Rosemary (Beatty) and sons Lawry and Patrick Carter. Loving father of Susan (Marc Ouellet), Brian (Sylwia) and Katie (Gary Murray). Proud grandpa of Nicole, Leah (Nick), and Alison (Dennis); Patrick and Emily (and their mother Nancy Carter); Cassandra, Victoria, and Arthur; Laura, Evelyn and Graham; and great- grandpa to Charlotte. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and his many dear friends and colleagues.
The family would like to thank all the kind staff and caregivers at the Colonel By Retirement Living for the friendship, care and compassion they showed Alfie. Fred's life will be celebrated by family at a private Interment on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Beechwood Cemetery. You may express your condolences to the family through donations to the Kidney Foundation.
