I am extremely grateful and humbled to have been nominated for the Vice President of Region 4 (Eastern) position on the IABPA Executive Board. I have been a member of the IABPA since 2014 and have attended the annual meeting each year. Through that experience, I have met many of you and value your expertise, guidance and friendship. I have said on several occasions that the members of the IABPA are like family to me, and I am extremely proud to be a part of this organization.
For those I have not met, I am currently a Lt Colonel with the Connecticut State Police and have spent the majority of my 18 years in Major Crime, primarily as a Crime Scene Detective and Supervisor. I have been practicing BPA, in addition to shooting and crime scene reconstruction, since 2014. I am currently certified by the IAI in BPA, with previous certifications as a CSA and Crime Scene Reconstructionist. I have a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the US Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven and served for 8 years as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. I currently serve as an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven and Central Connecticut State University teaching graduate level courses in forensic science and criminal justice.
I am extremely passionate about BPA, focused on adhering to the science and endeavor to act as a steward for our community. Outside of direct BPA casework, I have contributed to the discipline through published research and continuing work on an area of convergence methodology and stain size categorization with the use of image software. As a result of my 27 years of leadership experience, current service on an executive board for a therapeutic riding center and several law enforcement committees, I have developed an understanding of the importance of governance for an organization, particularly in an environment that requires adaptation and change.
Our continued progress forward in training, education, methodology, research and standards is reliant on the engagement and action of our board and our membership. We are fortunate to have candidates for VP Region 4 who are well equipped to add value to our community. I believe my work ethic, commitment and experience will enable me to make a positive impact on our organization. I look forward to serving the membership and working with the executive board to move our science and community forward. I appreciate your consideration of my candidacy.
